INTRAVA™ DX Herbicide
Here is a brand-new product from UPL that needs to be on your radar in 2026! INTRAVA™ DX Herbicide introduces a game-changing new active ingredient to the corn market. It’s been a while since we’ve seen a new active ingredient launched in the marketplace. INTRAVA™ DX Herbicide is a long-lasting preemergent residual herbicide that offers control over the most challenging weeds, including HPPD-resistant pigweed and atrazine-resistant Amaranth species. The new active ingredient in INTRAVA™ DX Herbicide is called Amicarbazone. Amicarbazone is new to the corn market and has no known resistance issues. This active belongs to the triazolinone class of chemicals which is part of the Group 5 or Photosystem II Inhibitors. Interesting enough, Metribuzin which is also included in INTRAVA™ DX Herbicide, is part of the same family. So this product contains two, Group 5 active ingredients. Key weeds controlled include common lambsquarter, common ragweed, palmer amaranth, redroot pigweed, waterhemp and velvetleaf. It also delivers suppression of barnyardgrass, crabgrass, giant foxtail and green foxtail. INTRAVA™ DX Herbicide’s labeled rate is 10-20oz per acre and is an easy tank mix partner.
INTRAVA™ DX Herbicide can be applied preplant surface up to 30 days prior to planting or preemergence (after planting, but prior to crop emergence) to field corn and silage corn. Application of INTRAVA™ DX Herbicide after crop emergence can result in severe crop injury and/or death.
So, how can we utilize this product as a corn preemergence option? After reviewing the label and looking over 2024 Weed Control Field Test Data from South Dakota State University (Link Attached), we intend to utilize this product with both mesotrione (generic Callisto) and S-Metolachlor as a corn preemergence in 2026. By removing atrazine from the mix, we will have a lower use rate program. Within the SDSU study, they test 3 treatments:
INTRAVA™ DX Herbicide + Roundup Powermax 3 + Moccasin II Plus (S-Metolachlor), INTRAVA™ DX Herbicide + Roundup Powermax 3 + Motif (Mesotrione) and INTRAVA™ DX Herbicide + Roundup Powermax 3 + Coyote (S-Metolachlor + Mesotrione). Moccasin II Plus, Motif and Coyote are all UPL products. In this study, the combination of 16oz of INTRAVA™ DX Herbicide + 76oz of Coyote performed the best with 99% efficacy on velvetleaf, common lambsquarter and common waterhemp. It’s important to note that this study was conducted as a two-pass corn program. Efficacy mentioned was at 28 DAT. For growers looking for a one-pass program, I would increase the rate of INTRAVA™ DX Herbicide to 20 oz per acre. Additionally, 32 oz of Coyote herbicide is equivalent to 2.94oz of Mesotrione and 15oz of S-Metolachlor. From a convenience standpoint, we are looking at running 20oz of INTRAVA™ DX Herbicide + 64oz of Coyote herbicide as a one-pass preemergence program.
What I like about this product is that we can quickly incorporate a brand new active into our corn preemergence program. We sell a lot of generic Lexar each year. I’ve been looking for a preemergence product we can switch these acres too without getting too far out of the comfort zone. I believe this product fits the bill. While we are still utilizing mesotrione and S-Metolachlor, we are replacing atrazine and adding two active ingredients (Amicarbazone & Metribuzin).
